A warm welcome!
Welcome to the blog page for my website. This is my first post and I wish you all a warm welcome. Here I will be breaking down games to their core fundamentals. I will also be talking about game psychology and what techniques draw in and hook player bases.
We’ll also talk about a wide range of topics, whether they be simple or convoluted. One topic is the ethics of behaviorism’s use within the mobile gambling industry. Another subject would be biological psychology’s influence on game mechanics. Did you know a person’s biological response to a scenario is often used to impact mechanics in a game? There is much to discuss.
A bit about me
In 2020, I graduated from my Computer Games Technology course with a 1st Class Honours, of which I am very proud.
I have loved video games all my life – it’s exciting to be able to design and develop my own games for other people to play. I won’t beat around the bush here… you can learn more about me by clicking here.
Psychology in games
Whilst at Portsmouth University, I studied a psychology unit. This course showed me that it’s important to design all components of video games with a purpose.
Keeping players enticed and engaged can utilising common psychological techniques is paramount. Everyday psychological principles help keep playtime and user satisfaction high, which increases sales. But some methods that corporations use to drive sales can cause controversy.
Some of these techniques cause debate in gaming communities. I am sure everyone remembers “loot boxes”. From a psychological view, they worked a treat; ethics-wise; that’s debatable.
Psychology can also help measure player commitment, engagement, and levels of fun. Further psychological research has also provided explanations for the reasons people play games. Believe it or not, there are even potential health benefits!
So, if you haven’t guessed by now, I find psychology very interesting. I’m always looking for ways to incorporate psychological techniques into my games. You can see my recent projects here.
The Future
Moving forward, I’ll be using this page to collate some of the more interesting topics that I come across.
I can’t wait to start writing about exciting theories and breaking down games. So, sit back and relax – I hope my blog teaches you something new.
